Transponder Keys, problems

Virginia Beach LocksmithTransponder keys make locking your car extremely easier then what it used to be like. Without transponder keys, you have to go to your car and unlock and lock it yourself, well with a transponder key all you have to do is press a button and your keys are locked.

The way these keys are designed to transmit a radio signal from a handheld device to a remote receiver. Transponder keys are used to unlock and start vehicles and have also been used to open gates and are used in buildings for keyless entry systems.
Each one is programmed to start a specific vehicle, gate or whatever you need to use one for.  These also help reduce the possibility of theft. There is a number of ways to bypass transponders, some of this can be done with inexpensive equipment.

The majority of newer cars come with a transponder key because the technology was first introduced in 1995. The transmitter unit consists of a small microchip in the plastic portion of the key. It has a unique serial number which is created during the programming of the key so it can be programmed correctly to the right vehicle.
The chip inside of the transponder key sends a signal to the vehicle that lets it no to turn off the engine immobilizers. If a car doesn’t recognize the number it will then remain locked and immobilized. The key that has not been programmed can still turn the engine over, but it won’t start since it still has to be activated.

Even though transponder keys are available to several different cars, and has been since 1995, there are still vehicles out on the road that don’t have transponder keys made for that vehicle, but the good news is if your vehicle doesn’t have it attached you can actually get one programmed to your vehicle if you wish to do so.

Cars can be retrofitted for transponder systems, it often extremely expensive, and it involves programming and creating their electrical system in order to make a new key. This is a job that can be done by locksmiths or auto dealers. This is not a recommended job to be done by yourself, since how complicated it is. An auto dealer might be a better choice than a locksmith in some instances since, in order to get this job done means having to release the programming information of the vehicle, which could lead to theft. So, if you are thinking about adding this to your vehicle it’s always a good idea to think of the options of what can happen if you're not careful.

Advantages and Disadvantages of this kind of technology:

The technology that is involved in programming these keys are extremely specific to the vehicle and has led manufacturers and insurance companies to consider cars virtually theft-proof, because of these keys. Even though, someone can still break into these cars easily if given the time to do so just like every other vehicle. This might cause problems with your insurance whenever a theft situation occurs, due to no fault of your own.

The advantages of a transponder key for a vehicle is that they make it a lot harder for someone to break in because the second someone tries to break in an alarm system goes off that signals to  other people in the area that something is going on. So, if you’re at work, and someone in the parking lot decides to try and break in, life has just become harder for that thief because now the alarm system automatically goes off to alert other people in the area about someone breaking in.

There have been rare situations where thieves have found ways to bypass this situation by towing the car away or by using a bypassing machine, which takes time to operate and get inside of a vehicle, but if you’re inside all day at work you don’t have a visual on what’s going on, unless someone else spots something suspicious and tries to stop it.

The entire perception and idea of being theft proof have caused problems for a lot owner because it becomes difficult to explain to your insurance company that the car is actually stolen.

Bypassing the Transponder technology:

The best option whenever owning a transponder key is to own several since replacements of these keys are generally very expensive, and hard to install. Whenever a replacement is needed it can usually be made by an auto dealer or locksmith, but this can be a way too expensive. There are also kits that can bypass transponders as well.

Some people just purchase a new plain key cut for the ignition and they tape the transponder key on the inside of the steering column so that it is close whenever they need to turn off the engine immobilizers. This is then used so the person with the car can start a car with a plain key.

Drivers can program their own blank keys if they choose to do so, but this process varies by vehicle make and model because there are many model specific instructions posted on the internet. The only problem with this is you never truly know if the instruc5itons posted truly work since a lot of this is posted by faceless people who you don’t know have the capabilities to bypass the system. Contacting the manufacturer or finding an expert to bypass might be the best option in some cases.

Other Uses of the Transponder technology:

As mentioned earlier there are several different uses of this technology besides being used on cars. These include wireless alarm keys, garage or gate opening remote controls, and wireless house-entry systems. As this technology continues to advance there is continued to development of keyless entry and starting systems. These systems use a signal that is sent out from the fob, whenever it's in the range of the receiver these doors will be unlocked and the car will be started with push-button ignition.

As you can see transponder keys are extremely useful, but just like every other technology there are problems that come from them as well, and if you have any more questions about transponder keys in Virginia Beach, VA then check out an auto dealer or a locksmith like Mobile Pro Locksmith, LLC.
